For Girls
In our constantly changing world, we require individuals who are able to discover what is needed to make the world a better place and willing to take action to make a difference. We need individuals of courage, confidence, and character. We need Girl Scouts!
Leadership Awards
Girl Scouting offers hundreds of programs and activities that help girls become better leaders. This includes the Girl Scout Gold Award (for Girl Scouts 14-18), the highest achievement in Girl Scouting and one of the organizations’ most prominent leadership development programs. In addition, Girl Scouts ages 11-14 may earn the Girl Scout Silver Award. To receive these awards, girls must meet requirements that help them prepare for, and complete, a special project benefiting their communities. Based on requests from Junior Girl Scouts (ages 8-11), the Girl Scout Bronze Award was introduced in 2001. Today these three awards are a highlight of the Girl Scout experience.
Volunteer Opportunities
Girl Scouts has longstanding history and commitment to volunteering. Its part of the Girl Scout law to make the world a better place, which girls do every time they volunteer.
Over the last year, River Valleys Girl Scouts have participated in more than 200,000 hours of community service. Check back here for community service opportunities and do your part to make a difference in your community. Remember, always identify yourself as a Girl Scout when doing community service by wearing your Girl Scout pin or sash/vest.
Here is an opportunity: Operation Christmas Child
Aba Nyame is a 13-year-old girl from Ghana. Aba received a shoe box gift that had items her size in it like underwear and socks. The shoe box also contained a towel and toiletries. Before receiving the shoe box she only had one pair of underwear and the family of four-shared one towel. She is now so thankful to have her own towel.
Operation Christmas Child-the world's largest Christmas project-has collected more than 61 million shoe box gifts in just 15 years of operation. A project of international relief organization Samaritan's Purse, Operation Christmas Child brings gifts of hope to millions of needy children through simple shoe box gifts.
In 2007, some 8 million suffering children in more than 100 countries received personal shoe box gifts filled with simple things most people take for granted-soap, toothbrushes, school supplies, candy, and other necessity items. For many of these children, the shoe box gift will be the first gift they have ever received. Thanks to caring individuals, families, schools, churches, civic clubs and other organizations in thousands of cities in all 50 states and 10 additional countries these suffering children will receive a little bit a hope in the form of a simple shoebox gift.
